What Warranty Does an Average Exterior Remodeler Offer on Siding, Windows, and Roofing?
Warranty coverage from an exterior remodeler comes in 2 parts: the contractor’s labor warranty on the installation and the manufacturer’s warranty on the product.
Virginia requires any Class A contractor to offer at least a 1-year workmanship guarantee.
Anything above that floor varies by company and by service.
On roofing, the strongest manufacturer coverage is only available through certified installers.

What the Ten-Year Labor and Lifetime Parts Warranty Covers on Windows
The 10-year term covers our installation work on the window.
The lifetime term covers the working parts inside it, meaning the pieces that move or seal: the balance system, the sashes, the glass seal.
If the trim, the exterior wrap, or the caulking around the opening lets water in, and it traces back to how we set the window, we come back out.
Any reputable manufacturer should give you lifetime on parts, so that term is worth checking against whoever else is quoting your windows.
What the Three-Year Labor Warranty Covers on Siding, Roofing, Gutters, and Decks
The 3-year term covers the installation itself on all 4 of those services.
If the failure traces back to how the material went on your house, that’s a labor claim.
How Manufacturer Warranties Add Another Layer of Protection
The manufacturer warranty covers the product failing, such as when a shingle has a manufacturing defect like granule loss.
Why Certification Changes What a Roofing Warranty Pays
Only a certified installer can issue an enhanced manufacturer warranty.
We’re GAF certified and CertainTeed Shingle Master installers, which is what lets us write the GAF Systems Plus warranty: 50 years, non-prorated, labor and material.
Storms and hurricanes aren’t covered.
Everything else that goes wrong with the roof system is.
Without that certification, you’re left holding the prorated shingle warranty, and that pays out enough shingles to make the repair and nothing else.
No underlayment, no accessories, no labor.
Who Files the Claim
We do, or we walk you through it.
Sadly, a lot of companies will tell you the warranty isn’t with them; it’s with CertainTeed or GAF, and then they hand you a phone number.
We don’t do that.

What to Check in Any Contractor’s Warranty Before You Sign
Before you sign anything, check these 4 things:
- The labor term in years, separate from the product warranty.
- Whether the product coverage is prorated or non-prorated.
- Who files the manufacturer claim.
- What’s excluded.
A prorated warranty pays less the older your roof gets, on a declining schedule.
Non-prorated pays full value no matter how old the roof is.
Only a certified installer can offer the non-prorated version, so ask about certification here rather than taking the warranty length at face value.
